ABOUT US

Tokyo Sports & Orthopaedic Clinic (TSOC) led by a shoulder & elbow specialist, Hiroyuki Sugaya, MD, was established on Sep. 1, 2020 in Ikebukuro, Tokyo. Dr. Sugaya had been dedicated to the treatment and researches of shoulder & elbow injuries for almost 30 years after he finished thesis work in Orthopaedic Department in Chiba University. He moved to Funabashi Orthopaedic Hospital in 2002, where he led shoulder & elbow team for 18 years. During those time, he and his team published numerous clinical research articles based on vast clinical experiences regarding treatment for shoulder & elbow injuries in various ages of patients including professionals and elite athletes. Also, he had been dedicated to surgeons accepting many fellows and visitors from inside and outside Japan.

He created a new team in TSOC during the pandemic and continues to the same clinical and research works he did in Funabashi. In addition, after the pandemic he again started accepting fellows and visitors from overseas.

In January 2025, TSOC established a new branch clinic, TSOC Kitasando, in Kita-Sando, Shibuya, Tokyo. This five-story building has imaging facility with X-rays and MRI in the 1^st floor, Physio & Training space in the 4^th floor, Surgery Center with 2 ORs in the basement, and in-patient facility with 19 beds including 9 private rooms in the 3^rd floor.

Currently, TSOC provides medical care to various patients who have orthopaedic problems such as shoulder & elbow, hip, knee & lower extremities based on precise diagnosis through physical examination and imaging including Ultrasound, MRI as well as CT scan (TSOC Kita-Ikebukuro). TSOC also provides a state-of-art physiotherapy both in TSOC Kita-Ikebukuro and Kitasando.

Specialty consultations

Shoulder & Elbow Service led by Drs. Hiroyuki SUGAYA and Morihito TOKAI, provides precise diagnosis based on physical examination and imaging and recommends the best treatment including medication, physio, and surgery in TSOC Kitasando. Dr. Shinya YAMASAKI joined TSOC as a Knee specialist in 2022, provides professional service in Knee and Lower extremities. TSOC also provides Regenerative Medicine including PRP injection led by Dr. Takahiro Ogura who joined TSOC Feb. 2025.

Imaging

TSOC has excellent imaging facility in both Kita-Ikebukuro and Kitasando

X-rays, Ultrasound, MRI (Philips, Netherlands)
CT scan (Philips, Netherlands) only in TSOC Kita-Ikebukuro

Physio

TSOC has large Physio & Training space in the 4th floor (TSOC Physio) where professional physio & training is provided by experienced physiotherapists and athletic trainers.

Surgery

Shoulder & Elbow surgeries and Knee arthroscopy will be done in TSOC Kitasando. Surgeries requires longer hospital stay such as Hip and Knee arthroplasty and Knee osteotomy will be done in Meirikai Tokyo Yamato Hospital in Itabashi, Tokyo.

Appointments

TSOC welcomes patients who has Japanese insurance and those who have not. Consultations are basically by appointment; therefore, we strongly recommend patients to make an appointment through website, email, or call/Fax.

We also encourage foreign patients to understand that our policy is PAY & CLAIM for all consultations.

Charges

◆ If you have Japanese insurance, charges are set according to the regulation.
◆ If you have global insurance or no insurance, you will be charged according to our regulations.

Payment

We accept VISA, JCB, Master, AMEX, Diners, Discover and J-Debit Card at the cashier desk.

We ask patients to settle the payment on the day that the services are rendered (Pay & Claim system)

Insurance claims

You will receive an itemized receipt and statement of your diagnosis. Please use these for your insurance claims. However, if a specific claim form is required, we are happy to complete these for you. In most cases, this will be free of charge. The complete claim form with doctor’s signature will be sent to you by post or emailed with PDF within a couple weeks.

Direct billing services

For direct billing services, please contact your insurance company for a guarantee letter of payment. This must cover 100% of all fees with no deductible or co-payment. Your insurance company should email the letter to info@tsocs.jp or fax us on +81 3-6721-0506.
